Carvers Wolverhampton

AT A GLANCE…

  • Established a trusted, long-term partnership with ongoing support.

  • Aligned all contracts to a common end date.

  • Supported recovery efforts following a major incident.

  • Created a long-term Net Zero strategy.

  • Conduct monthly bill validations.

Introduction and Background

We tried to connect with Carvers for years without success. Our approach relied on cold calls, and like many businesses, they were inundated all promising cheaper energy. Additionally, we were aware that the Financial Director was hesitant to engage with brokers due to a prior bad experience.

Fortunately, in 2010, one of our trusted referral partners secured an appointment between Chris, our MD, and Carvers’ FD.

Although initially cautious, they quickly built a strong rapport, and the FD gave Chris an opportunity to demonstrate our value.

Challenges

Carvers faced several key challenges across their multiple sites:

Contracts were spread across multiple suppliers, with varying end dates and pricing structures, making management inefficient.

Outdated Metering Technology leading to issues with data collation and effective monitoring.

The client had two clear goals:

1) Partner with a broker they could trust to manage their energy portfolio.

2) Free up his own time to focus on core business operations.

Solution and Implementation

We first implemented an agreed commission-based model ensuring transparency. Within the first month, we consolidated all contracts under the same supplier with a common end date—something other brokers had deemed unachievable.

This alignment allowed us to market their portfolio as a single basket, enabling further cost reductions. In 2012, tragedy struck when Carvers’ head office burned to the ground. BUT despite the challenging circumstances, they remained determined to rebuild.

We played a crucial role in restoring new connections during this time which solidified our relationship further.

Today, we collaborate with Carvers on a long-term Net Zero strategy, while continuing to manage their energy portfolio.

Conclusion

This case study highlights the power of referrals, particularly when clients are initially reluctant to engage with brokers. Once trust is established, brokers and clients can form highly effective partnerships.

For businesses operating across multiple sites, working with a transparent and proactive broker can deliver significant value.

Our advice: choose a broker who is upfront about their fees and challenge them to implement strategies that save you both time and money.
